Concord families & staff –
Yesterday, PowerSchool, the district’s student information system provider, notified our IT Department that the Concord School District was among PowerSchool’s worldwide customers whose data may have been accessed during a cybersecurity incident. PowerSchool became aware of the incident on December 28, 2024.
The information that we have at this time is limited. According to PowerSchool, the incident is contained.
Excerpt from PowerSchool’s notification:
“Rest assured, we have taken all appropriate steps to prevent the data involved from further unauthorized access or misuse. We do not anticipate the data being shared or made public, and we believe it has been deleted without any further replication or dissemination.
We have taken all appropriate steps to further prevent the exposure of information affected by this incident. While we are unaware of and do not expect any actual or attempted misuse of personal information or any financial harm to impacted individuals as a result of this incident, PowerSchool will be providing credit monitoring to affected adults and identity protection services to affected minors in accordance with regulatory and contractual obligations. The particular information compromised will vary by impacted customer. We anticipate that only a subset of impacted customers will have notification obligations.”
Potential Data Accessed
Initial information from PowerSchool indicates that Personally Identifiable Information (PII) for staff and students may have been accessed. This may include contact information, including names and addresses, grade information for current and former students, and parent/guardian names and addresses. The district does not collect social security information in PowerSchool.
Our IT Department is actively researching what data may have been accessed.
Next Steps
The district will continue to research the scope and details of what information was impacted. We will be working with our insurance carrier’s cyber consultant for their support and guidance.
Please be assured that we are taking this matter very seriously.
I will send an update on Friday afternoon.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Murphy, Superintendent
