Student placement work begins for 2017-2018 school year

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The CMS staff is beginning our work on student placement for next school year. My hope is that this annual letter will answer your questions and alleviate the natural anxieties that some parents and students experience as placements are completed.

If you feel it is needed, we invite you to complete the Parent Input Form (not a requirement). You can also access the form on our school website. We welcome your input about your child to assist us in the placement process. Like you, we want to create the most effective learning experience for your child.

I ask that you do not request a specific teacher.  I understand the temptation to do so, but all teacher requests will be removed from the process before it begins.

Please return the form directly to me by Friday, April 14th. You may return it as a hard copy or electronically.

We will work diligently before the end of the school year to complete the placement process. We will provide a short step-up experience on the last day of school for all students with the teachers in their new grade level. You will receive information about your child's placement with the end of year report card on that day.

I will not make changes to placements after our new classes have been created, except of course for extraordinary circumstances or drastic enrollment shifts within a grade level. Our teachers thoughtfully collaborate with several adults in our school to create well-balanced, productive, and positive learning environments for all of the children leaving their classrooms. I greatly respect their work and careful decisions.

We will not send home the new class lists, as several parents have requested confidentiality in regards to publishing their child's identity.
